WODH KHAK (CLEANING OF IRRIGATION CHANNELS)

During the last week of February depending on weather condition and melting of snow the local people collectively prepares the main irrigation channels irrigating the fields. The date is decided by Numbadars or other village elders and inform the villagers. The villagers on early in the morning gather at the starting point of their respective irrigation channels. During olden time it was tradition that at early in the morning flour was sprinkled on doors and spade to purify it. The family head takes the spade and gather at starting point of the channels. The Khalipha offers special prayers for prosperity, productivity and supply of sufficient water. After this the people start to repair and clean the channels. The work is also started by the hands of Shoghun Puthuk. After completion of the work special food is prepared and enjoyed. During formal time polo match was also organized during this day.
