The actual age of this house is not know however it is said that this is the oldest house in Gulmit. The owner of the house narrate this as 900 years old. However, the structure and type of construction of the house reveals that this is not this much old and the 1850s flood of Shimshal almost destroyed all the old structures. The Mir of Hunza before the construction of the Mir's Palace in Gulmit, run his political activities from this house thus it get more significance. This is the most sophisticated type of construction in Gulmit. This old house is still in good conditions and most of the tourists visits this house in Gulmit
In order to keep it in use a local NGO has started Carpet Weaving Centre for women in this house. who usually spent three month in the capital to settle disputes, to oversee tax collection and to supervise his annual wheat production. |
