Polo Ground

Located to the east of the Gulmit old cluster settlement  is a large polo ground at the end of which is the Mir of Hunza’s Summer Palace, and a by now damaged arched gateway at the other end.

The 20th century Jamat Khana and the Sitting in a lush setting of potato fields and apricot trees the cluster together with the Polo ground can be seen as the heart of Gulmit where people gather in the evenings and all major social gatherings take place. Historically, this ground was used to play polo matches during state time. However, nowadays this ground is rarely used to symbolically play polo matches during special occasions. This polo ground is still served as a center of the activities and festivals not only in Gulmit but also for Gojal. All the major festival on Gojal level are celebrated in this polo ground.
