Mother Educational Institution in Hunza

  home

Historically speaking the British India while recognizing the importance of the Hunza state due to its geo-political stands gave many incentives to the Mir of Hunza. Besides other incentives the British government for the first time in 1913 established a Primary school at the capital of Hunza. At that time there was hardly few literate persons throughout the whole state thus initially teachers were brought from down country. The state machinery not allowed the children of common people to get education from this school fearing that education will make them conscious of their rights, which can threaten their monopolies. Thus the children of Royal families and those having high standings in the affairs of the state benefited from this school. However one cannot deny the importance of this institution because this school for the first time produced few primary passed peoples who later served the region as teachers.  The school can thus called the mother of all educational institutions of the entire region and the teachers called’ teachers of today’s teachers’.
