First School Building in Gojal |
|||||
| home |
Under this network the upper Hunza for the first time got about 5 primary schools. One of which was established in Gulmit, which was the then second capital of former Hunza state. Up till 1946 there was not a single literate person in the entire widely scattered Gojal valley and to read a letter or any message they traveled for a day on foot to central Hunza. Thus when the school was established a primary passed teacher Momin Hayat was brought from Central Hunza to teach the students. These schools were run initially in lawns of Jamat Khanas and houses. Initially except a single teacher there was neither any formal school building nor sitting facilities and the early students got education by sitting on field and sharing a combine book among 5-10 students. As Gulmit was a central place so students allover Gojal benefited from this school and after completing their primary educations, they returned to their villages and served as teachers.
